  1. Willy believes that being well liked is linked to success because salesman have to be able to connect with the buyer. It is just part of the job. If you are able to connect with someone you have a better chance of making the sale. So, being well liked is a big deal in the sales industry.

  2. Willy says, "Be liked and you will never want" (20). In Willy's eyes, if someone is liked, everyone will cater to his needs. Willy's general philosophy seems to be that appearance and popularity will ensure success, so being liked is a crucial part of that. It seems that Willy wants validation for both himself and his sons in the business world and wants everything to be done in the utmost professional way.

  3. "It's not what you say, it's how you say it --- because personality always wins the day" (45).

Looking at this scene, Willy's knowledge of business is clear, specifically in sales. He knows the importance of a relationship with a person in connection to the success of business. Being well liked is necessary in order to achieve a successful deal, so you must be likable.
